Old Chicago

not the new deep dish

Time to resurrect the food posts. Living downtown in the Old Market has its perks: mainly, I live amongst tons of restaurants. Old Chicago is a restaurant with four locations in Omaha, one of them being in the Old Market. My good buddy Ja (he’s such a good buddy, I don’t even have a picture of him anywhere, so instead, I’ll put a picture of Old Chicago’s old deep dish…) works at one of the locations and as such, is entitled to a 40% discount, which he graciously shares with his friends. Our conversations typically go something like this:

Me: “Yo, what’s going on?”
Ja: “Not much, just finished working. I’m really tired.”
Me: “Yeah, wow, that’s great. Hey, do you want to meet me downtown for some OC?” (that’s what the cool kids call Old Chicago, apparently)
Ja: *silence* “Alright, but let me shower first and then I’ll meet you down there.”
Me: “OK, but hurry. I’m hungry!”

Once there, we get hooked up with the 40%. Last night, we realized that not counting the times that he’s worked there this week, we’ve been there 9 times in the past 4 days. After late-night Halo 2 battles, we’ll walk down, sit outside, and grab a beer and either a turtle cheesecake or a Kahlua fudge brownie before heading back for more Master Chief goodness. This has happened for the past four days.

Not to mention that they just added a Chicago-style pizza that is frickin amazing. Here’s my build-your-own: Andouille sausage, chicken, and mushrooms with a side of ranch. Old Chicago ranch is the best ranch you’ll ever have.

This summer, I’ve decided to partake in their World Beer Tour, which entails drinking 110 different beers. No problem for an OC fan such as myself.

At any rate, just wanted to let you know how I’ve spent my time since finals have ended. I don’t know what I’m going to do when Ja takes off for New Hampshire for the summer. Anyways, I’m off to Old Chicago for my awesome pizza and basket of fries fix.

California bound

In the spirit of spontaneity, when I was talking to my parents earlier this morning (happy mother’s day!), they told me to buy a ticket home this week. Soooooo, it looks like I’m heading back home this Tuesday. Anyone gonna be around? So long corn, hello cows. A good start to what should be a fantastic summer of traveling.

Summertime…

golf

Summer 2005 officially begins! So while last summer, I honed my tennis skills, I think this summer I’m going to learn the game of golf. What better way to make me forget that I live amongst cornfields than spending hours on a golf course? I look at this as an investment in my future. For one thing, I’ll be able to spend lots of time with random Korean parents if I so desire, as well as learning an activity (sport?) that will benefit my future relationships with pharmaceutical reps. I think I’ll be needing some clubs. And some golf clothes to complete the ensemble. And an instructor, like Se Ri Pak. Anyone have any recommendations and price points?

Home stretch

Great story: I was going to my review session wearing my Spike’s T-shirt and someone (she was from Rhode Island, of course, but in Nebraska?!) recognized my shirt and we had quite the great conversation. OK, now I’m craving Spike’s… I guess there’s only one way to solve that problem.

I’ll be all done on Thursday. TWO MORE DAYS. I can’t wait. After that, I have some (lots) of free time. Anyone want to drop by Nebraska? Anyone? Helllooooo?

EDIT: OK, I removed the link to Maroon 5, since for some reason it’s not loading properly. I’ll figure it out on Thursday. BTW, anyone have Tiger and want to have a 3-way video chat? Oh, one of us needs a G5.
