Indie All-Stars

Rabbit Fur CoatI’ve had a little over a month to fully listen to Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins’s Rabbit Fur Coat. I think Rilo Kiley fans will enjoy this album (I know there’s at least someone else that visits this site that enjoys RK)… More to the point, Jenny Lewis fans will enjoy this album. It’s got lots of Jenny’s voice, light instrumentation, and of course, the Watson Twins complementing throughout.

The cover of Traveling Wilburys [George Harrison super group, woo!] Handle With Care is amazing. See my previous post professing my love of covers. But this cover is especially amazing, even legendary. The contributors in Handle With Care read like the A-list of indie rock: Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), M. Ward, and Connor Oberst (Bright Eyes). You can easily play Six Four Degrees of Separation with all of the above names. Some tips: include Omaha, The Postal Service, and/or True Love.
Here are some tracks to whet your appetite. Let me know what you think. Then go buy the album.

Great Deal on a Bed in a Bag

Damn you deal websites!!!! They make me buy things that I don’t need. Earlier today, I bought a Queen size Bed in a Bag for $19.99 from Amazon. It includes a comforter, bed skirt, two shams, two pillowcases, flat sheet, and fitted sheet. I don’t even know what a sham is, but I just got two of them! 180-thread count, so it might be a little rough for my sensitively smooth skin.

It’s also very patriotic-looking. The full-size bed in a bag (also $19.99) looks a lot nicer. If you pad the total to $25.00, you can use code IODISCNT to save an additional 10%. Sadly, the $5.99 Farberware 3-Piece Cutting Board set that I ordered is no longer available. But you can add the Venus Vibrance Soothing Vibrations Razor which ends up being free after rebate. Or a $5.99 Tommy Hilfiger towel. Or a $7.99 Brita pitcher. Now go order your bed-in-a-bag.

Orb

My buddy Jacob recently recommended Orb to me. Orb allows you to watch live or recorded tv, schedule recordings, store and view photos, and stream your mp3 collection. It requires a Windows XP PC, (Media Center Edition with TV Tuner for TV functionality.)

Like Slingbox, Orb has no monthly fees. Unlike Slingbox, it currently works for Pocket PCs, MS Smartphones, Nokia Series 60, 80, and 90 phones. Also, no additional hardware is required. Just your PC.
I haven’t installed it yet, but Jacob has, so I’ll ask him to review it.

The way I see it, if you want to stream TV and have a Media Center PC or a TV Tuner card, you should give Orb a try.
But I don’t think there is a simpler solution than Slingbox for streaming TV: Just plug your ethernet cable, power, and cable/TiVo/set top box into Slingbox.

I should have a full review of Slingbox by the end of the week.

Date Movie: Quick Review

If you love spoofs, then you’ll enjoy Date Movie. How can you hate a movie that references Dodgeball? You can’t, no matter how bad the rest of the movie is. If you have time, you might be better served by watching the originals.
