Perian updated to 1.1.1

Perian, the rightfully named “Swiss-Army knife of QuickTime components,” has been updated to version 1.1.1 bringing along additional codec support and the fixes you would expect from a point release.

Perian is one of the few items I install on every Mac that I use (Flip4Mac and Growl being others). For the uninitiated, Perian is a component that adds support to QuickTime to play pretty much any media type. That includes DivX, XviD, MKV, FLV, 3ivx, and AVIs, to name a few. It installs as a preference pane in System Preferences.

You can download Perian here. It’s open-source and requires at least Mac OS X 10.4.7.

This Perian thing has come to my attention a few times now, and I think I’ll give it a whirl. I already use Flip4Mac. I actually have the Studio version that is great for converting to and from wmv. What I have to figure out now is why Safari gets bogged down and sometimes locks up when I encounter a wmv. Firefox seems to be fine with them, but Safari bugs me. Seems the F4M people are in the news these days with buying out Vara software, but I have been interested in their Drive In app Here. This could be a good thing for my DVD collection.
Sorry if I’m rambling on, but I have to tell you about one more item I splurged for today. It’s VooDooPad. I needed a database/wiki kinda thing and I think I really like it. Very customizable and unique, as well as efficient.
OK…I’ll stop fillin up the space now.

@Antonio: Have you tried MacTheRipper? You could combine that with something like DVDPedia to store and organize your DVDs. I’ll check VooDooPad out. Thanks!
