Dual 24-inch monitors or one 30-inch monitor?

I added a second 24-inch monitor (Dell 2408WFP) to accompany my lonely Dell 2407WFP. Yeah, the colors don’t really match up, but I used some calibration software to get pretty close. At least the exteriors look visually similar. A nice touch on my 2408WFP compared to my 2407WFP is that it has DisplayPort and HDMI.

After setting up the monitors side-by-side, I am frankly overwhelmed. I feel like there might be TOO much horizontal real estate, like, uh, 3840 pixels worth, while I don’t have enough vertical real estate. I remember feeling similarly awed when I upgraded from my 19″ 1280×1024 to my first 24″ 1920×1200. However, I got used to that feeling really quickly. I am still not used to there being so much head-turning to see two monitors. I do like the idea of having two monitors, and it’s great to be able to separate my workspaces with a distinct physical separation. However, it feels like there is way too much visual information for me to process and it might be time to downsize (is that even the proper term) to one 30-inch.

I’ll give it another week or two and post my impressions then. Any thoughts out there in internetland?

Free tacos are on!

You're welcome, America!

You're welcome, America!

Last night, during Game 1 of the World Series, Tampa Bay SS Jason Bartlett stole a base during the 5th inning meaning all of us in America are getting a free taco! Is one taco worth the probable long wait and digestive aftereffects?

That’s up to you, but if you remain unphased head over to your nearest Taco Bell next Tuesday, October 28, anytime from 2PM to 6PM and pick up your crunchy beef taco.

New MacBook/Pro/Air work with iPhone stereo headset

Big deal right? Why wouldn’t headphones work with the headphone port. It’s more than that, my friend.

The new MacBook lineup allows you to plug in your iPhone headset into the headphone port and use the iPhone headset’s built-in mic! Great for iChat, Skype, and VoIP apps. Not only that, the click functions also work in iTunes! Single-clicks start and stop your iTunes, Double-click advances you forward one song, and triple-click takes you back.

WD MyBook 1TB Studio Edition for $159.99

Fry’s has the MyBook 1TB Studio Edition for $159.99 which is a great price if you need FireWire 400/800 or eSATA. I saw the Essential Edition 1TB at Amazon for a similar price, but it only has a USB 2.0 connection. Might as well pay the same price and get the “cooler” white MyBook plus FireWire 400/800 and eSATA in addition to the USB connector. I pounced on the deal and mine has shipped and should be arriving on Thursday to replace my 500GB MyBook that acts as my Time Machine backup for my Hackintosh. I’ll be using the eSATA port which I am nerdily excited about. If you have a computer that doesn’t have FireWire ports, DON’T get this unless you really like white.

Steal a base, steal a taco (again)

Taco Bell is once again running its “steal a base, steal a taco” promotion. Basically, if any player steals a base during the World Series, we all get free tacos. And by “we,” I mean people living in the United States, which is about 90% of you. Last year, we won free tacos thanks to Tacoby Bellsbury. Who would go to Taco Bell and just buy one taco? Great idea, Taco Bell, though not as smart as your “Yo Quiero Taco Bell” chihuahua campaign.
